- i agree with the last poster, this box set is unbelievably and unexpectedly good. i didnt think anything of it when i picked it up in the $2 bin. the cover almost makes it appear like it's some magazine club box set of early jazz. i didn't even read the cover or line ups. All around probably the best jazz compilation I've ever listened to. And yeah, it sounds great too.
- Entirely unexpected the quality of reference in performance, artists represented, and sound quality. This is an exceptional box set, of which I usually avoid due to my own preconceptions of said sound quality..however entirely proven wrong. Most cuts engineered by RVG.
Upright acoustic bass in my opinion, is a litmus test to evaluate any well assembled 2-channel analog setup. This is true reference. - Anyone know if there are other Impluse editions which focus on an instrument, besides Bass, Drums, Saxophone?
