1989 saw the battle commence for the hip-house crown. In one corner stood Tyree and Kool Rock Steady with "Turn Up The Bass", in another Fast Eddie with "Yo Yo Get Funky", and in the third was Beatmasters and Merlin with "Who's In The House".

Out of the Netherlands came previously unheard-of rapper Toni Scott, and into the remaining corner with "That's How I'm Living" and delivered the knock-out punch.

Whilst not musically breaking any ground, "That's How I'm Living" has all the ingredients of a hip-house classic: a ricocheting break with punchy bassline, the obligatory James Brown-style punctuations, Scott's solid rap and even a bit of Royal House sampled for good measure.

The dub is provided by the TUX Mix, whilst the RTZ Mix drops some acid house squelches.

On the flip, "The Chief" is a solid piece of hip-hop, punctuated by Cherokee/Red Indian infuences.

    Legendary.
