Reviews
- Edited 9 years agoTyondai Braxton breaks away from Battles to visit the CENTRAL MARKET, delving into a a classical-electronics hybrid right from the start with the piano line and rhythmic chugs of "Opening Bell," even as the track takes a soundtrack turn halfway through. "Uffe's Woodshop" gets wilder, and the more spare "The Duck And The Butcher" gets silly, as the mouth harp adds a child-like feel. Meanwhile, "Platinum Rows" sounds like a carnival explosion before swinging into its own galloping orchestration. Indeed, the instrumentation here takes on a classical quality, even when things slow down to an underwater crawl on "Unfurling," replete with what sounds like whale calls. "Dead Strings" ends the album with more deep electronic throbs atop some interlaced orchestrations and Braxton's own vocal utterances. Some interesting material here.
