Sad. It definitely sounds like it's recorded directly from a TV. It's not even close in quality compared to the Christmas special soundtrack. An audio spectrum analysis in IzotopeRX shows that this record is mastered from a CD master as there is a hard cut at 20k. But that's the least of it's problems. I'm glad I got it for free.

Famous composer Vince Guaraldi penned this soundtrack for the cartoon special that originally hit air in October, 1966...It had a FORTY NINE share of viewing...One of every two folks in the US watched it that night...The Christmas soundtrack for Charlie Brown still remains one of the top selling soundtracks on the planet...Sad ending to Vince';s career was that he had just finished penning the soundtrack for an Arbor Day Charlie Brown special when he died of a heart attack at 47...BUT, he has left us some terrific sounding jazz that remains popular for over half a century...This CRAFT LP is kinda crazy...You have to play it at 45 rpm and it IS shaped like a pumpkin in orange wax...Sound is a bit muddled and that is no doubt due to the source material...Heck, they had no idea these would endure all these them it was a "One Shot" TV special and they would move on down the road...But they are special and remain so to this day...Look over there Charlie, it IS "The GREAT PUMPKIN"!

Awesome. Very fun vinyl to own, especially if you love the season as much as I do. I'll echo that you should definitely not keep the vinyl in the sticky pvc sleeve it comes inside to keep it nice!

EDIT: I'll add that the audio quality itself is good-not-great. Sounds like it was taken directly from the TV special in certain spots, with sound effects popping up now and then. Compared to the recent VMP Charlie Brown release, this is much lower in quality. Still love the look and novelty of the record, however and it's still perfectly listenable.

This is a really cool seasonal vinyl to own. I love the fact that it’s a pumpkin shape and the sound quality is great. I would change it out of the pvc sleeve just to ensure longevity, but other than that, this is definitely something to put on your list to pick up.

If Vince Guaraldi's breezy soundtracks to the Peanuts specials were one of your first introductions to jazz music, then this pumpkin-shaped 45rpm LP will probably hold a lot of sentimental value for you.

Unlike the other Craft Recordings reissues of the Christmas Special and "A Boy Named Charlie Brown," this record doesn't seem to be mastered by anyone special. Likely because the recording quality or source is not the greatest, as it sounds exactly like the muffled recording from an old TV. What that means is the sound quality compared to the other records--and particularly the Analogue Productions X-Mas special vinyl--is not very good. Craft usually tries to source analog if possible, which likely means that there is no good version of the Great Pumpkin soundtrack available, sadly.

If you missed out on this special edition, you didn't miss out on great sound quality. However, I adore the Peanuts comics, and am happy to have the three soundtracks on vinyl.

If you do get this pumpkin version, don't forget to sleeve your record in an anti-static inner sleeve. and maybe add a piece of cardboard to the back for stiffness? The packaging looks cool, but it's not conducive to promoting the longevity of your vinyl.

Such a cool pressing to own! You are absolutely going to want to put the LP in a separate inner sleeve and give it a clean. Mine was practically plastered to the plastic sleeve that it comes in originally. Once all that is out or the way, this thing looks and sounds great spinning.
