Reviews
- When I bought it I was like 'meh' about Deep Burnt. I mean, nice, in a stoner way. Actually dug Burning Hot. History says I'm an idiot, apparently.
- Edited 10 months agoMeh. I have pretty eclectic taste in music but this track does little for me (or for the dance floor). It's warm-up or closing material at best. I had a copy of the original 12" and quickly departed with it for the undeserved price it fetches. strictly for the purist house-heads, as they say.
- I remember vividly the first time hearing this track. I was dancing in my favorite club and had to run up the DJ (a friend of mine) the moment he dropped the needle on this gem. Since then, I have two copies and will never part with them.
Deep Burnt is the cornerstone of Deep House. - I bought this at the time when it was new and was DJing regularly, buying 50-60 records a month. It sort of passed me by, I'm surprised to see how revered this track has become over the last few years. Listening back, it's an amazing deep track. Kif released some great records back then, this is also a classic: https://www.discogs.com/release/213710-Savannah-Featuring-Chezeré-The-Right-Time
- Edited one year agoReally surprised nobody has mentioned the source of 'Deep Burnt', Freddy Hubbard's 1979 version of 'Little Sunflower' https://www.discogs.com/master/72335-Freddie-Hubbard-The-Love-Connection
This material was also edited later on by Theo Parrish (Ugly Edits).
Doesn't matter who got there 1st, 'Deep Burnt' is about as classic as 2nd generation house music get's.
Essential, epic, simple & spiritual, will never tire. - I just assume by the high amount of "Owners" that most has ticked of this original pressing when the reality is, that they have a reissue. If I'd buy a copy of this 1999 original and would get any of the represses, I'd be furiously mad...
- Solid classic material here. I only wish there was a good digital version for sale somewhere. I lost my turntables long ago.
- Deep Burnt 20+ years later.. this is still a sublime piece to me. I was in NY for most of the summer of '99 and was able to go to the Dance Ritual weeklies @ Vinyl with Louie Vega spinnng while there. He was dropping this each week I was there (IIRC of course) ... and it was magical. Pretty sure I scored my copy at Satellite. We get to hear strings like this with cuts like Trackheadz - Our Music (Shouts 416) and a bit more recently with Casino Times - Heart Strings on Wolf Music.. but this one is still the one. I think I stopped liking it for a time because it got more popular with the underground.. but I'm getting better about being less picky due to those inclinations.
