Foundation record in my collection. Bought it as a new release and has a permanent spot in the gig crate.

Desert island pick top 5 records of all genre for me.

I’m ashamed to admit that this track never ‘clicked’ with me. Heard it out a multitude of times since its release and never quite achieved the allure that others received when this was dropped.
Fast forward to last week; was coming home from a horrid day in the office. Stuck in traffic, YouTube music on shuffle.
Pepe’s Deep Burnt started flowing out of my speakers.
As I listened to the calming chords, the evening sky started to seep through my windows. I felt such a calm and serene feeling. I was overwhelmed with a sense of security and thought ‘uhhh, tomorrow will be a better day I’m sure’.
I felt like Tony Soprano yelling at the Sun ‘I get it’ whilst high on Peyote.
Safe to say this is now a main stay on my playlist, and a future vinyl purchase.

One of the most brilliant and beautiful deep house records of all time. "Deep Burnt" samples an orchestral section of a jazz funk song called "Little Sunflower" by Freddie Hubbard, and very much like an orchestral composition it then takes you on a 11min journey using filters, delays, and stereo panning effects that will melt your brain! "Burning Hot" is a bouncy quirky track with instrumentation that sounds like was lifted from an 80's Donald Fagan record (which is aweome) and it's a joint that just makes your head nod while doing a little shimmy or some pop lockin'. The third track on this sublime 12" is "The Right Way" which is raw rugged hip hop styled breakbeat bizness with a funky distorted bassline lifted from a rare Headhunters SF Funk styled album! I mean this shit is all around next level and still sounds ahead of the times almost 30 years after its release.

When I bought it I was like 'meh' about Deep Burnt. I mean, nice, in a stoner way. Actually dug Burning Hot. History says I'm an idiot, apparently.

Meh. I have pretty eclectic taste in music but this track does little for me (or for the dance floor). It's warm-up or closing material at best. I had a copy of the original 12" and quickly departed with it for the undeserved price it fetches. strictly for the purist house-heads, as they say.

I remember vividly the first time hearing this track. I was dancing in my favorite club and had to run up the DJ (a friend of mine) the moment he dropped the needle on this gem. Since then, I have two copies and will never part with them.
Deep Burnt is the cornerstone of Deep House.

I bought this at the time when it was new and was DJing regularly, buying 50-60 records a month. It sort of passed me by, I'm surprised to see how revered this track has become over the last few years. Listening back, it's an amazing deep track. Kif released some great records back then, this is also a classic: https://www.discogs.com/release/213710-Savannah-Featuring-Chezeré-The-Right-Time
