- I had a love-hate relationship with this release when I first heard it. At first I felt its just a pile of sound snippets from hip hop records assembled together, repetitive and without much coherence. However, somehow, I found myself returning to this record again and again. It took time before it unfolded and I could kinda grasp its secrets.
The record focuses a lot on percussion samples. There is very little melodies except inside of those little sound snippets which makes it sometimes sound like a record skipping in an endless loop. But under the surface, there is a whole other life taking place and an unexpected complexity emerges. I like the ambiguity of the sounds. It appears as a very weird "house music" on the surface, but it is a house constructed from jazz, hip hop, all all kinds of other mysterious sources cooked together. I can only say, give this record a chance, it is worth it.
Lastly, the gatefold sleeve design is beautiful, printed on matte cardboard, it feels great holding it in one´s hands.
