Reviews
- Edited one year agoA very, very varied compilation as can be hinted from the unique cover too. Disc 1 starts off with a track explicitly sampling some porn movie leaving nothing to the imagination. Caution: don't play this with people around. Then it continues with a couple of house tracks before the famous techno-house classic from 1990 arrives at index 6. I always failed to understand which mix it is when not labelled. Following is one of the godfathers of techno, Frenchman Laurent Garnier, and next are the German acid-masters Hardfloor with their bouncy and playful Strikeout track. 80’s acid-house artist Phuture are next with a very deep acid track remixed by none less than Miss Djax. Disc is rounded off by a very good hard-house-trance hit from another German techno legend. The voice sample says it all, it’s pure dance floor madness.
Disc 2 starts with the eclectic DJ Kicks track from Claude Young - DJ-Kicks itself, followed by some other tech-house tune right before Neil Landstrumm hits harder with his Praline Horse. Gotta love this veteran Scottish artist for the way he plays with sounds and odd structures he uses. Worldwide superstars Underworld are next with their famous 1994 Cowgirl. Plastikman remixes a very obscure artist often abbreviated to PWOG. As can be expected from this veteran he delivers a very minimalistic yet deep and hypnotic remix. Westbam are next with a breakbeat track, and then comes a track which for some reason I fancy a lot, maybe the combination of an odd tempo with the unusually toned monologue?
Time for some drum n bass with Alex Reece and DJ Krust, another 2 masters of their genre before the CD rounds off with American techno legend Robert Armani and his famous acid-techno track Circus Bells. This time however instead of the Hardfloor mix as often found on compilations it’s the Sven Väth mix which is breakbeat, not techno as you would normally expect from him, at least back then. Of course it’s nowhere as good as the Hardfloor mix however I don’t see this remix on much other CDs and it’s another added value to this eclectic package.
