Show All 13 Reviews- Truly godawful pressings. Both discs noisy as hell and both discs pringle shaped. THREE!! copies tried same each time. Buy the CD instead. For the love of quality music playback buy the CD!!!
- 👎 I too purchased a sealed copy at a local record store -- Side A UNLISTENABLE SOOOO MUCH SURFACE NOISE. Side B also surface NOISE but can tolerate with high frequencies cut. Side C has an annoying click through track 1. Side D plays pretty much fine. Shame on you Dead Oceans.
- Noisy mess all over side A & B, tried 2 pressings, same thing, I believe their stamper is just ultra noisy....
- I Spotify-ed this a lot before taking a stab at. One never knows with Dead Oceans what the vinyl will be like & some comments here made me a bit tepid to take the plunge. I am very glad I did.
Excellent pressing: Flat, silent & centered.
SQ is very good as well. There is a nice deep sound which is necessary. Airy & musical.
I am fortunate both Mordecai & The Mordecai Remixes are stellar for me.
My only gripe, besides the inner sleeves being cardboard, is the bland cover art; I wish the label graphics had been the cover.
(Rig: Rega RP6 with Ortofon black cart through McIntosh MA5200 amp & Axiom M60 v2 speakers.) - My copy sounds flawless. Ortofon bronze MM cartridge. I swapped out the paper inner sleeves immediately and gave it a standard dry clean with a disc brush. Strong recommendation.
- First copy I got had horrible surface noise sounding like static for basically all of side A. I'm okay with a little bit of noise but this was unlistenable, and not in any hipster audiophile way. I ordered it from End of an Ear and they offered me a refund, so kudos to them. I took a chance and ordered another copy from them and the second copy was much better. There was a tiny bit of surface noise at the start of side A and side D, but nothing anywhere near the first copy. So if you get a bad copy, just know there are good ones out there, as frustrating as these defects may be.
All said, the pressing sounds pretty decent. - I too have lots of surface noise at the start of side A, minimal on side B of my copy... mild warp on side A. Outside of that its great!
