A Factory Record.
First edition. Later UK editions can have a die-cut cover with thin matte black inner sleeve, or a die-cut cover with thick glossy black inner sleeve, or a plain black with just the colour coding and different inner sleeves.
The coloured strip is not random - it spells out the Catalog#, band name and both song titles.
The back cover of "Power, Corruption and Lies" has the same colour coding, done with the alphabet (a decoder ring).
First pressing: 60,000 copies (30,000 pre-sales).
Initial A1/B1 pressings are characterised by a heavy and opaque vinyl. Runout space is 0.35 inches. The first edition thick silver inner sleeve has straight top corners.
"Outvoted" in the runout refers to an error made by the Strawberry engineer, who brought up the fader too late and missed the first drumbeat. New Order took a vote as to whether the mistake should stay, and the yes vote prevailed.

Show All 62 Reviews- Edited 8 days agoYes New Order defined hi NRG music... Are you people that stupid lol?
Plenty of music from 82 did everything this did and it's called Passion by flirts and bobby orlando.. He got ripped off originally by NO so he subsequently did the same to them.. Those are the facts. Also Patrick Cowley... Hello people, all the same hi nrg sounds he was doing in like 81.. This is bush league lol
Dweebs who probably didn't even live through the era don't know jack shit, just keep talking out your rect um ;) - A legion of idiot fans saying Bobby orlando ripped this shit off when he had the same beats with Griffith and flirts in 81/82... It's like you're all dumb and don't care about chronological order.. Just what you like, lol peons🤣
- I have a version with no lyrics/singing on the A side. Probably a bootleg? Any ideas? Silver sleeve, black vinyl
- One of the most important modern records. Switched an entire generation on, and then the next one. Classic.
- Edited 2 months agoI've got a couple of copies of this. One doesn't seem to be listed though. It's got a non-die sleeve, plain white inner and "FAC 73 A3 GG 155 (or just 55) POUNDA TA1PE. WHERE'S MURDER?" and "FAC 73 B3 I SAID WHERE'S MURDER GG 3 5⇂" - labels on the right way. Any ideas?
- I bought this new in the uk way back when and I have the Matrix / Runout (Side A - Variation 10): FAC-73-A-1 MT.4 STRAWBERRY OUT VOTED!
Matrix / Runout (Side B - Variation 10): FAC-73-B-1 MT.5 HO.EL + TEL! STRAWBERRY
Which is first edition according to this site but my sleeves are not cut out the are the thick glossy inner sleeve and the outer has FAC SEVENTY THREE printed on the spine.
Can anyone shed some light as i want to add it into my collection but not sure which one. - New Orders best selling 12 " ever. although New Order lost 0.10p ukp on every copy sold! due to the cover being too much to produce. The management skills of Factory lol. All that money lost, the debt the Hacienda was in kept afloat aslong as it did only by New Order Record sales. Its an awesome story to tell. 0161.
- First and as far as I know only record to enter the (Dutch) Charts only as a 12"Single (I'm talking about both the "normal" charts and the Dance charts). Despite the fact that you had to spend almost 3 times as much as for an "ordinary single" (i.e. a 7-inch), it reached the third place in the normal charts (and was in the top of the dance charts the whole summer of '83. IMHO very good that tey refused to shorten their song tom make it more commercially attractive.... and it turned out to be a very good decision indeed, in England it is the best selling 12″-single of all times, and very deservedly so IMHO!
(Bougt it myself too back in the day and still have it, only after many years I realized that the cover depicts a floppy-drive (the big 5 1/4 inch that were still really "floppy").
BTW When I say "first and as far as I know only record", etc. I'm talking about the vinyl era, what exactly happened when things changed to CD's I don't know.
