Firstly the music...Longpigs were easily one of my favorite bands back then. I saw them when the 1st album, 'The Sun Is Often Out' came out in 1996 or early '97 (London's Kentish Town Forum) and I loved the skull bruising bass and sludgy guitars along with Crispin Hunt's raspy vocals and clever lyrics. Truth be told, when this 2nd album, 'Mobile Home', came out I was initially quite disappointed with it because I guess I wanted more face melting sludge and what they presented on this album was far from that. However, over the years, this album, which is significantly more varied and diverse than its predecessor, has sunk its teeth into my matured brain and heart and it is now my favorite of their two records.

And now for a few notes on this new LP reissue. Originally released on CD only, I was excited to get a copy of this Ltd. Ed. LP release, especially considering it's harder to find in the States. I readily admit I need to spend more time with the LP because the CD is what I have known for 2+ decades, however, on first impressions the CD is significantly louder and the LP mix also seems flat and thin in comparison to the much more sonically dynamic CD ("I Lied I Love You" and "Keep The Light Alive" really highlight this). Maybe it's because I am so used to the CD that I feel this way, but the LP seems to lack the dynamic range, kick and sonic clarity that I hoped I would hear from the very outset. All of that said, I'm glad we have an album that is finally getting its overdue vinyl release, but maybe one day a sonically superior label like Music on Vinyl will properly give us a reissue of this gem. Hopefully it won't take 20+ years tho!
