Reviews
- I bought the 5 cd set. Very reasonably priced. An embarrassment of riches. Sound quality is fantastic. Beautiful packaging.
- As of 28 April 2022, only 278 Discogs members own Archives Volume 2; only 35 members have it on their want list. I also glanced at the stats for Joni’s Volume 1 box, as well as for the various vinyl LP sets released since the archival project began e.g. Live at Canterbury 1967. Wow, similar low numbers.
Why is this, despite that reviews of content and pressing quality have been mostly positive? Is it because her 76 year old, boom generation fanbase don’t spend money on such things at this stage of their lives?
I imagine that any young people new to Joni and who wish to explore her catalog are also not buying these releases simply because they prefer digital streaming over physical format.
Then exactly who’s gonna buy the loads of planned archival releases from her later eras? I wonder if Joni had approved or initiated the archival project much earlier, at the height of the CD era, would more people have devoured these releases …
