- As weird as it sounds, I have some originals of this album, but kurt's vocals almost have a digital effect to them while the instruments sound normal. I wonder if only the vocals had a digital source or something? Kind of smushed soundstage, got it in the live concert box set though, and those sound great. So not sweating it too much.
- 30th Anniversary Edition press sounds very flat and compressed compared to other vinyl in my collection. I purchased a sealed copy of this vinyl and it is in perfect condition. This is one of my favorited albums of all time, but I'm not impressed at all with this version of the vinyl. I hope to have the opportunity to listen and/or purchase one of the other pressings of this album in the future.
- Edited 4 months agoBecause I was so positively surprised by the In Utero's 30th anniversary vinyl edition, I wanted to own the same thing for Nevermind (I own a 2008 Back to Black vinyl pressing which is correct without being exceptional). The tip-on gatefold sleeve and the bonus vinyl 7" have finally convinced me to find a copy of this 2021 edition. I received it today and I am so so disappointed. The gatefold sleeve is cool, I don't find the reproduction of the artwork is bad, but the record is crackling quit a bit (the 7" cracks even more). Moreover I have the misprint on the B side label, that's not very important at the limit but the insert is missing (my copy is second hand, that's probably why), and this last thing is more problematic for me. In conclusion if I'd known I'd have abstain.
- Edited 9 months agoI have many versions of this record. This one sounds great too! Record was flat. The label issue seen in the photos is not on my copy. No URL printed over the DGC logo on side 2. The only issue is that the very nice black/lined record sleeve that was included was super crumpled up due to the tight jacket. Oh well. Otherwise, it's a nice press. The jacket is nicely made, but tight, like many modern tip-ons. The printing is pretty good, but the contrast is a bit washed out on this. I don't think it's low rez. The first US press is a bit soft too.
- Highly recommended...as per usual I bought this on CD and tape when it came out. I did regret not buying it on vinyl as the years went by but back then nobody really cared about the value of a particular format.
This is brilliant and great value. - I have an original 1st EU pressing, so I can say i'm comparing this edition with the "original" source.
The cover looks scanned: dark and blurred, totally different from the high quality picture of the 1st pressing.
The gatefold is good, but it's very tight which makes really painful to take out the inner sleeve and put it back in.
The record is really heavyweight and flat as a pancake, but the audio quality is really questionable, the sound of this remaster is acceptable and OK, but it's totally a different soundstage compared to the 1st press... but the worst thing's that the record is crackling from start to finish bringing a totally unpleasant sound.
The 45 rpm single it's a nice touch and the sound quality is good considering it's 6 minutes on Side A and 8 minutes on Side B.
Definitely a good collection piece, but my go-to copy is the original issue, but there are many modern pressings that sound really, really good too. - Gotta admit, I mostly got this for the 7". I have the Phallas press already. The gatefold cover was a bonus, but the art is so dark and dull, really disappointed. If I had seen this in stores instead of online, I'd pass it right up. Bummer. Hopefully In Utero is an improvement.
- Edited 11 months agoThis pressing boasts great mastering, surpassing the MoFi edition (in terms of sonics). It offers a sound quality that sits between the MoFi and BG cut. If you can't budget for the original or BG version, this is the ideal choice. Don't be misled by detractors. This release has faced criticism mainly for two reasons: first, it may not be as limited edition as initially claimed, and second, due to negative comments from an irrelevant YouTuber who was disappointed by the number of copies allocated for his record shop. Furthermore, for those interested in trying out this pressing, it's worth noting that Music On Vinyl and MoFi have a long history of digitally sourcing their material, many of which are highly respected. Thus, criticizing this release for its digital sourcing is entirely unfounded. This pressing is fantastic and easily competes with the original (OG), Bernie Grundman (BG) and Mobile Fidelity (MoFi) releases. If it had been pressed at Pallas or if it had the MoFi branding on the sleeve, most reviewers wouldn't have had anything negative to say about it. To clarify, I own both the BG vinyl and the MoFi CD version. It could benefit from a thorough cleaning!
- Overall I think this is worth it. Nice mix and the vinyl sounds clear and bright. Kurt's vocals realluy shine through. Bass is a little lacking on my system though.
