Reviews
- Beautiful, the track Chant is almost perfect. Probably the best verging on commercially acceptable sound since Viva Hate with Morrissey. Some tracks also evoke a Chameleons vibe although I don’t want to leave the impression it is Chameleons influenced.
- The Durutti Columns finest album by far. Vinni retains his somewhat etherial sound, but plays some tracks which could easily be classed as 'Stadium Rock'. Bruce's drums are bigger than ever and slightly lag or lead the beat as his his whim, creating a fantastic tension, while Poppy creates some truly melodic backdrops. Kier, as always, provides the terrific musical glue that holds it all together. The best album of 2010 - still being played (by me) nearly every day!
- A beautiful, beautiful record. Not only is this a wonderful homage to Tony Wilson, it also pushes Vini and the Column's art to new levels - there is an epic, almost symphonic quality to "Chant". Tony Wilson always used to hate Vini's singing, so this is an instrumental album, bar some clever sampling (check out "Brother" - I won't spoil the suprise here!).
The bonus disk is a nice add on, although most of the tracks on here were previously available else where (eg: "Neil" is from Keep Breathing).
