This is a decent compilation of Gang of Four, with a couple early and demo versions (particularly Armalite Rifle and Damaged Goods) and a few live cuts and remixes, but like most recent re-masters, it's pretty loud and compressed (but, it's not as bad as some...) As a fan of GOF's early albums, I'm not really interested in much after Songs of The Free, and thankfully, this comp doesn't have a lot of the later-era "disco-y" stuff. But my main complaint is the glaring omission of any tracks from The Peel Sessions! I would've given 4 stars to include a few of those versions over studio cuts.
So...
It's an OK place to start if you're new to this band, and if you can find it on sale, but I'd recommend just get Infinite Zero's 1995 remaster of Entertainment!/Yellow EP (which is what good remastering should sound like) and Solid Gold/Another Day Another Dollar...oh! and The Peel Sessions!
