- Edited 3 years agoReceived this today. I can confirm it is great. My copy sounds full and lush and is better then the original black lp. The vinyl was pristine. I am also a very picky person with vinyl. When i ordered this on amazon uk it didnt say anything about it being coloured vinyl. I rarely if ever buy coloured vinyl. This was a welcome surprise considering how it worked out.
Using a project with bronze ortofon and kanto tuks. - I was dreading putting this on after seeing the negative feedback for this pressing but I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. My copy is silent and has great dynamics. I guess I got lucky!
- Agreed with other reviewers, mastering isn't all that great. Mine had a little non fill in places and was overall noisy. Tip-on jacket was heavyweight, but very tight.
- Mine doesn’t have pops or cracks but everything sounds very compressed so it’s quite disappointing given how much this cost compared to the standard black. The album itself is sensational but this release is a let down :(
- Edited 3 years agoJust another nasty, cheap piece of plastic with not-so-cheap price tag. It starts really promising, since velvet cover looks cool. But from that point - oh boy, where to start:
1) Vinyl is rather grey than silver, thin (def not heavyweight...), with couple of discoloured-like spots. Mine also has a darker line going out of the centre that seems to be raised, since stylus slightly jumps on it on both sides. It also has clearly visible, inaudible tho, scuff on first song.
2) Side A is slightly off-center, but kinda acceptable in a world of vinyl butchering
3) Noise floor is surprisingly low, at least considering crack and pop there and there and following points
4) Mastering is just awful, terrible - this thing is super compressed and LOUD, much louder than the digital release, everything screams at you from this record. It has a dynamic range of dubstep and amazingly still sounds flat and boring. Comparing to this, Spotify version sounds like an audiophile sacd mastering.
5) Non-fills on side A, Beyond Love intro is completely ruined with guitar sounding like an emergency siren
6) No anti-static sleeve
Good things: it doesn't skip, people will go liek OOOOO DEPRESSSION CHERRY I LOVE IT <3 seeing it on your shelf. Your girlfriend won't let you return this as long as it does some noises out of it, so you can save your time and spend it on doing research before buying another overpriced sh*te for banana people with crosleys. - Juno has this listed as heavyweight, is anyone able to confirm? https://www.juno.co.uk/products/beach-house-depression-cherry-reissue/857581-01/?c=1104561
