It seems I have this version, although mine DOES have the transparent inner sleeve. However, there's only the inner 33mm pressing ring visible. Iirc I got this back in 2010.
Dusted this off just now...In my subjective opinion, one of (if not) his greatest LPs. As far as the Pressing and Remaster. It is physically flat, very rarely a slight tick, and sounds damn good on my modest system...
Excellent reissue, if you get a flat one. I bought and returned three copies of this that had severe warping, before I finally got a flat one. Now that I found a flat one, I’m thrilled. Great remaster. Nice low end and separation. I had one of the Bernie Grundman Mono reissues. And while that sound stellar as well, I prefer this album in stereo, especially with all the panning and flanging effects in the mix. Definitely recommend this version, just be sure to get one that isn’t warped.
Such a great mastering job done by George Marino! There is not much I can add. Everything has been said below. Amazing sounding full of life record.
On a side note, I actually owned the Mono press cut by Bernie Grundman. I was quite happy with it until I heard this. I know mono is more of a preference/different sonic take on this record but I genuinely believe stereo is the best way to enjoy this record and best represents the group’s intended sound.
I enjoyed this reissue so much I ended up ordering the Experience Hendrix pressings of EXPERIENCED, LADYLAND, and FIRST RAYS the day after I played AXIS. Best I've ever heard this priceless music sound, and the quality/price ratio is insane. Just a fantastic sounding record, great depth to the low end, pure and crisp highs, and so much middle. Glad they brought in Eddie Kramer to work on these excellent releases. My copy plays flat and quiet, with zero surface noise.
