Gentlemen of ECM, please, a good vinyl reissue of this marvel would be a very good idea.

This album is a brilliant example of early-1970s experimental psychedelic free-form jazz -- really whacky and avant-gardistic, yet precise, funky and punchy. A few parts seem to have inspired later Krautrock productions (most notably the Cosmic Jokers albums of 1974), but the professionalism of the Wolfgang Dauner outfit, and the musicians' mind-blowing musical mastery, set them miles apart. "Output" should be considered a timeless classic (it is).

I just noticed that a download of "Output" is listed as available. I'm not too interested in downloads, but if the download is authorized, maybe that's an indication that a CD release isn't too far behind, or maybe even an LP-only reissue like ECM has recently done with an expanded, 2LP edition of Mal Waldron Trio's 1969 "Free At Last." Of course, "Free At Last" has seen several CD releases over the years, but at this point, I'd be happy with just about any reissue of "Output." Has anyone heard the download?

does anyone know why this album (and also robin kenyatta's "girl from martinique") has not been released on CD? is there some kind of contractual issue? these are both just incredible albums. ECM has released many crappy albums on CD, why not these great ones?

Great record. I used to see this in the record store and wonder what kind of music it must be due to the album cover. Turns out it's great music that in parts is jazzy and parts prog, spacey, and science fiction-y all on the same albums.

An awesome, innovative experimental Kraut-fusion album that's still yet to get a CD reissue (Nov. 2014)

There are possibly 5 ECM LP pressings. Original and second pressings (both similar, can't remember what the difference is). Third pressing has the type of laminate that tends to peel. LC codes were launched in early 1977. I know of two pressings. 1 with the original label, 2. with the revised label ca. 1983? Laminated and spray/print glaze versions exist. No represses since 1985.
