Sticky ground-breaking piss-off gold album! True labour of love; dry, metallic, anarchist, all the way-in. Another top-notch, golden competitor in the famous 'classics' list which would evocate a huge UK underground in the names of The Modernaires, Perennial Divide & more recently Black Midi.
Intimate world and uncopiable nocturnal painting. Britain at his best, original and stylish piece of aRt.
True (living souls) rockers lost in long escapades. Nothing barely comparable to. Pure psychedelism tainted by black,n'poetry/relativism/ethno-garde with a spiritual touch.

If King Crimson was at the time a worldwide influence for any musician or youngie, Mass probably been on the 'graphic'/'philosophical' side more than on the music, yet, improvised. 'Labour Of Love' and 'Discipline' shows up to be nice relative words/images. In the exact same year (1981) both bands gave birth to an 'Elephant Talk'. "The Blind Men and An Elephant" is an old hindu story which consists of 6 blind men, everyone getting a different subjective version of what an elephant is by touching it. The parable implies that one's subjective experience can be true, but that such experience is inherently limited by its failure to account for other truths or a totality of truth.

A valuable element to not let anyone fill this album into any style/genre.
Mass. MASS is unique and have to be fully experienced with different systems, perspectives and situations. A true observational quest of its own. Your own-Labour of Love-is creAtion.

"Good album, not a masterpiece" as one reviewer put it. Utterly wrong. A masterpiece and I don't say that lightly. The music of Mass exudes the concentrated essence of mania from every pore. Dark, intense, driven and disturbed. The raw, uncompromising and epic sound of Rema-Rema taken to the ultimate level. Music to soar to, Icarus flying too close to the sun. Let Mass into your world and you will burn.

Most people would hate this album with a passion. For the chosen few, this album is to die for.

My vinyl copy has a picture sleeve but a generic inner sleeve.
Did the original come with a printed inner sleeve? Anyone.

If The Fall entered a bar with Joy Division and Can... while listening to This Heat but keeping things more on the spacey side of things, you could basically listen to this record thinking about a jam session with the aforementioned bands. Althought the result aint so great here and there you can find dissonant guitars, (wannabe) crazed vocals & a sax that is thrown in the mix just for kicks and some decent songs. Good album, but not a masterpiece. Could have been better.
