- I've got a still sealed White Stripes White Blood Cells ERC I'm looking to trade for this. If you're interested, please message me

https://www.stereophile.com/content/revinylization-30-coltranes-giant-steps-electric-recording-company - This mono reissue is now my go to when I want to listen to Giant Steps, I did it! I’ve played it several times and really enjoy it more than the other versions I own. Okay I have to say I wasn’t sure I would actually play the album because of it’s assumed value, but I did, I stripped off the wrapping, cut the tape that held the plastic outer sleeve shut and pulled out the album and played it! Yes, I was sweating with fear every step of the way, I didn’t want to damage this rare and increasingly pricey object in doing so, but I was curious because the packaging is so visually alluring, and the way the back of the album was printed just completely seduced me, I just had to hear it, and I’m glad I did.
- As I usually state in my reviews, getting an outstanding sounding ERC requires some luck. Not in terms of the work done by ERC (although there is some heated debates about this online), but in terms of how the original session was recorded. Given the lack of equalization or mastering, it all boils down to how the ERC cutting system will "listen" to the original unedited masters.
In the case of "Giant Steps", I find the ERC version a huge win. Different than other pressing I have of this iconic album, the ERC one has Coltrane at the center of it all. And I don't mean the soundstage (this is a mono version), but actually the fact Coltrane sounds like THE main element of this amazing ensemble. It is almost like the rhythmic session instruments were muffled (but in a good way) to make Coltrane shine. You can still hear the beauty of Flanagan's chords, Paul Chambers' walking and Taylor's triplet fills, but somehow they open up space for the amazing sound of Coltrane's punchy tenor sax.
