the East Coast mix of Poppa Large is the definitive version- strange how it has been missed even on re-releases of the Ultramag's second album as it could be considered Kool Keith's finest exhibition of delivery and wordplay, but I'm guessing this is either because of licensing issues or general inclination to keep the album in its original format. The Beatminerz put the work in with the beat and gone is the lazy tired Prince sampling version of the original and the whole song has been given a complete makeover, with rapid-fire James Brown samples and an excellent bassline throughout. as an anecdote from the critical beatdown remastered booklet It should be noted that Liam Howlett when he tracked down Keith to perform on Fat Of The Land specifically asked Keith to write and rap in a similar way, which led to the creation of Diesel Power.

That said, the West Coast remix is ok too, synching in more of that Zapp/Roger sampling sound that every G-funk rapper had in the early 90s. Keith even went as far as to change the chorus to "West Coast" as a bonus.

Similar to the "Soul Clap EP" from Showbiz & A.G., this used to be one of the most desired 12" from the 90ties, for a Hip-Hop DJ / collector of that time. The "East Coast Mix". The wordplay & that attitude, pfff...

Original Pressing has etched "866-733-1-A"/"866-733-1-B" in run-out groove. It has also written "Printed in U.S.A." on the back of the cover.

There has never been an offical reissue of this 12 inch. The bootleg has "55317E1/A" etched in run-out groove. Cover and label printings are blurry and they don't have written "Printed in U.S.A." on the back of the cover.

A large amount of the Mercury rap catologue was re-released around 2004 - 2005 including this record by the Ultramagnetic MC's. You can tell the differecnce as if you look at the label of the record it's a Dark Blue/Purply colour whereas the original was a lighter blue. Also the sleeve on the rear looks a little blurred on the re-issue
