I've had some pretty bad luck with getting some decent pressings from Third Man Records. I've been holding off on getting anything on that label because of this. Both this album and the follow-up, Entering Heaven Alive were wicked cheap on Spin Me Round's website. Took a chance and ordered both albums. Lo and behold, this sucker sounds FANTASTIC! I may have to look into some more recent pressings the White Stripes stuff now.
Love this album, although was a bit underwhelmed when I first put it on. Great dynamics, clarity, detail, and soundstage, but just felt it lacked the bite and the massive, blow your head off sound I was expecting.
But as others have mentioned, my copy also seems to be very quiet, and I really need to turn it up past what I would normally consider to be too loud to get the full effect. Be advised that you really have to crank this thing up to get the desired punch. Not a bad thing per se, but I have plenty of other LPs that blow the roof off without having to be turned up to 11.
My copy also has a fair amount of mildly annoying surface noise even after a wet clean, but at high volume, I really only notice the noise/pops in the quiet parts.
Worth getting if you like the album, and overall the sound/detail/clarity is really good, but the persistent surface noise and fact that you have to turn it up abnormally high makes this pressing fall a bit short in my opinion. 4 out of 5 stars for me.
Skipping on very end of A1 :( weird, cause it’s thoroughly cleaned and looks perfect to my eye… no visible scratches or anything and the record is perfectly flat. Anyone else having some skipping issues?
I got my copy at Third Man Records in Detroit. First Jack White solo album I've heard and it's very good! It's very dynamic and has a nice and wide sound stage. I appreciate the energy on this album, it goes very hard. My copy sounds amazing, no clicks or pops and the surface noise is very minimal on my MP-110 which I still am breaking in. The only thing I've notice is I feel like the album is mastered -3db when compared to others so I have to turn it up slightly more but it's not an issue to me just something I should point out.
