Of all the flagship big beat albums that were in stores's shelves back then, "Dig Your Own Hole" is arguably the least accessible and danceable one, along with The Prodigy's "Music For The Jilted Generation" as my second choice.
Not every clubber is gonna rock on the sirens and expermental, industrial bleeps and bops heard here and there throughout the process.

The Manchester duo (edit : or rather the British duo raised in the London area who studied and formed in Manchester) continued their rock and electronic combination initiated with "Exit Planet Dust", which was (and still is) coherent from first to last. A prime example of this rock/electronic combo was "Life Is Sweet" featuring Tim Burgess.
The Chems wanted to partner with another famous rock singer for their next LP, and so came "Setting Sun" (a.k.a. "Tomorrow Never Noels") in 1996 as the first preview of "Dig Your Own Hole".

Starting the sound modules and drum machines orchestra is the explosive, classic anthem "Block Rockin' Beats", which now has been used as their outro in several of their live sets over the last years. It also received a Grammy Award for the "Best Rock Instrumental Performance".
Then, the eponymous tune has some of the funkiest bass of the whole CD. They sound very similar to those of the next banger "Elektrobank", whose 8 minutes aren't noticeable due to the groovy bassline and the intelligent variations.
"Piku" has been my jam when I first heard it, and still is. The chorus (is it an appropriate name ?) section from 2:50 to around 3:30 has been haunting me for over 10 years. Mindblowing.
"It Doesn't Matter" is more about making your deaf thanks to the intense bass, the loud house beats an the repetitive vocal sample.
"Don't Stop The Rock" is where the word "bleep" as an importance.
"Lost In The K-Hole" has a lunar atmosphere that allows the listener to take a break after all this rhythm and mess. It also has a gorgeous bassline.
"Where Do I Begin" continues in the relaxing theme thanks to Beth Orton, although it becomes less and less delighted as the transition with "The Private Psychedelic Reel" approaches.
Oh, "The Private Psychedelic Reel". What a rollercoaster ! I've always loved sitars being added in electronic productions, some of my favorites being in Indian Ropeman's "Elephant Sound", a superb big beat gem from Skint Records. I have to say this is my most cherished ending of any Chemical Brothers album, and I find it interesting as I've always thought its exotic nature sounds as a preview of how the follow-up "Surrender" will sound.

Случается так что у многих рок - групп первые два альбома получаются очень сильными как по музыкальной части так и по части текстов.

They need to release an album sampler or something, I don't know, I just want the song dig your own hole in a vinyl single.

This desperately needs a reissue on vinyl.
