This is the only IA album that really competes with the Elevators in terms of all-time-top-notch psych (though I've always been partial to the Bubble Puppy, too). Some say it's even better than Easter Everywhere -- they're wrong, but that shows just how good this album is. The first songs I really loved were the hard-edged "Starvation" and "My Time," but the fact is that there just ain't a dull track here. The lyrics are stupendous and really a headful. The sessions would've benefited from the stunning blues guitar of Stacy Sutherland, but hell, what wouldn't have? This introspective trip goes in a different -- and for me, very original -- direction than the Elevators, which was hitherto unheard in early psych. Early? Yeah, apparently this record was finished in '67 before the Elevators' sophomore effort, but was held back by IA... the typical bad management story, I suppose.

As with the other IA products, all of the reissues are garbage, and the more recent you get, the worse they become. Avoid anything with the word "Charly" on it. The originals were mastered very well, like other IA LPs, though with stereotypical "wide" '60s mixing techniques.

This is really that good and overlooked to boot. The vocals, harmonies and songwriting is fantastic. The pressing is equally amazing and well worth seeking out this original press 1A/1A stamper.

ALSO note the OG edition has a paste-on cover. The 1979 reissue is a printed cover.
