- Yes, In This World is a very special record: heartfelt and moving. I first came to cindytalk through camouflage heart and saw him perform it live at the ICA, London. It was an incredible performance.
plaidzebra describes the album well below, so I don't have to add much more. It's best to listen to both albums and then the lyrical bit at the end really hits you.
For those who like In This World, Camouflage Heart is a must (it contains some truly searing moments) and Wappinschaw too. Yes, it can be an acquired taste, but definitely worth acquiring!
On Camouflage Heart there is a note to Elizabeth Fraser asking if there is enough room for three in the rosary . . . Gordon Sharp's accompaniment on the bonus tracks of Cocteau Twins' Garlands is worth listening to. - Edited 8 years agoThis album contains an unusual mix of angry, violent, guitar and drum machine-driven tracks with strong vocals, and soft, ambient, mostly instrumental tracks including a number of drifting, minimal piano pieces. Imagine a cross between Big Black and This Mortal Coil and you're on your way there. It might not be easy to love at first listen, but "In This World" still manages to get under the skin and possesses some unique, haunting and beautiful moments.
It took more than 25 years, but especially now having heard the vinyl reissue (which sounds much better than the muted 1988 cd), I feel that this is a special record. I still don't know to whom I'd recommend it, but it's achingly beautiful and possesses the sting of truth. Coupled with a fresh March snowfall, it's quite moving.
