The Best Rock/70's compilation ever pressed to disc!
possibly only equalled by the Life On Mars Soundtrack cd- but that cd had one track in awful mp3-type quality that always annoyed me.

when this CD came out this was the best many of these Pistols tracks had ever sounded on CD and its still holding up pretty well

It also works as a compilation, especially disc 1, the perfect accompaniment to a hot summer bbq or road trip.
I mean seriously, The Pistols, Bowie, The Who, Roxy Music, Alice Cooper!
this is good time music imbued with happy memories.
theres not a duff track on there, even the pop nonsense of the bay city rollers raises a smile in this context, like the comedy novelty tracks on The Great Rock N Roll Swindle did.
a review at the time said something like "contains the 5 best songs of the 70's"
I only watched the film a couple of times as I found it heartbreaking but I absolutely played this CD to death for a few years!
stupidly I traded this cd away at a time when I thought I was moving abroad - bad move.
This was the CD that made me see the value of a well thought out well sequenced compilation, something i'd previously not appreciated
the high quality studio tracks on the "songs from the movies" bootleg LP possibly emanate from the preparation of this CD

Early promo copies mailed out to journalists featured 2 extra tracks - Who Killed Bambi & My Way tacked on to the end of disc 2

for an audiophile version of Pictures of Lily I recommend the Steve Hoffman mastered CD version of Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy
and for Jean Genie I favour the version on the K-Tel "Best of Bowie" compilation from 1980
