- Edited one year ago2nd Album Revolution #6:
You know, there are some things in life that are there for a reason, even though we may not get the point.."Prince's" "20Ten" is one of those things...
Originally released through a newspaper in various countries outside the "U.S" like the "UK" and Ireland (which was very unusual), "20Ten", believe it or not, made a serious impact...Once again, this was "Prince" sticking it to the music industry....I had to get it through "Ebay", which I couldn't complain, because back then I wasn't sure how to get my hands on it...
With all that being said, "20Ten" is a very, very, very UNDERATTED album!!!!
The first 2 songs in "Compassion" and "Beginning Endlessly" starts the album very nicely...
"Future Soul Song", the 1st Crown Jewel, is a VERY VERY nice Slow Song...
The 2nd Crown Jewel, "Sticky Like Glue", is a "Funk Soul" dream...
"Act Of God" is a "Telling The Truth" song....
"Lavaux" isn't the best, but it is a nice little song....
"Walk In Sand" (3rd Crown Jewel), is a fantastic slow song, right along with "Sea Of Everything"....
With "Everybody Loves Me", is just "Prince" having tons of fun...
The last song, and 4th Crown Jewel in "Laydown", is a straight up in your face, let me show the young folks how it's done, "Funk" joint!!!!! (Even though I still don't understand the skipping to track #77)
The only gripe with this one is, I wished that he would have included the joint "Cause and Effect"....
It is something, these songs are so simple and easy, and I feel like this would have been embraced strongly!!! As usual, it is time for a Vinyl release, and we are ready for it...This is hands down "Prince's" most underrate album, Period!!!!!!! - I agree with curtisryan - there are some great songs on here. Just because it was given away with a newspaper doesn't mean it's a disposable Prince album. "Beginning Endlessly," "Future Soul Song," "Sticky Like Glue," "Laydown" are all excellent. If the Prince Estate issues this on vinyl I'll definitely get it.
- Edited 2 years agoI disagree with the comments below, this is a highly polished Prince album with a throwback to his classic material with a modern twist. Heck, nearly every song features his classic Linn-drum sound. It's like a neo-80's Prince album and has some really good stuff. Check out Future Soul Song to get hooked on this great album. In dire need of a repress on CD and vinyl.
- Edited one year agoI like this album a lot. Prince could go on lyrical tangents on other albums but there are lots of gems on here and it reminds me that he was a great songwriter. Act Of God and Walk In Sand are brilliant.
- I really like this album, especially "Sticky Like Glue" and "Walk in The Sand". So many people get stuck in Prince's 1980's music and don't like anything else. I like a great deal of his later music, including this album.
