I remember hearing this album when I was 12 and I was absolutely transfixed, I think this compilation defines my 80s.
Isn't it about time we get a rerelease 3 x CD with those extra tracks from the 28 track cassette release and a few other dubs and mixes to fill it out??

Are there any people to answer as to why this compilation hasn't been remastered and pressed officially along with the 12" singles and albums they've been releasing the last few years? Are there rights issues with the mixes? or is it just as simple as they've not done it?

Used to think Substance was a quintessential New Order work, as it was the first I have listened to. Learning with time that Hurt and Perfect Kiss were cut makes it now useless.
"Substance" as a title says it all. No other compilation of New Order's work can match, serving as dull formality by comparison. Whatever your format of choice, you won't miss... Although here, the cassette or the CD are the winner. They have it all.
This so needs a reissue on vinyl, including the tracks featured on the second cd... Confusion Instrumental etc are simply amazing!!!

I bought one copy here in December last year. At first I thought my copy was U.K. 1st press. But I recently have found mine is not UK pressing. My copy was released in Benelux. It seems to look like the same from U.K. 1st press in many ways (embossed letters, Fact 200, etc.), but the label of my record shows it was made in EEC although the outer sleeve indicates it was manufactured in UK. My copy was wrongly listed as a U.K. Version when I bought it.
