The San Francisco edition of the 1983/84 Rock To Riches contest consists mainly of new wave and alternative artists.

Standout artists: Population R, Perfect Strangers, The Defectors

    Track by track:

    1. Robert Seidler - "Christian Boy": New wave/post-punk.
    2. Population R - "I Am Blind": Fast new wave/alt rock in the vein of U2.
    3. The Stir-Ups - "Don't Leave": Female-fronted retro rock 'n' roll.
    4. Perfect Strangers - "Run To You": Upbeat, driving new wave rock from their three-track EP.
    5. The Defectors - "Forever And Never": Original version of this new wave/power pop act's song, with keyboards being more prominent here.
    6. The Uptones - "Out To Sea": Ska.
    7. Flying Tigers - "You Feel Nothing": Alternative rock.
    8. Fade To Black - "Ultraviolet": Punky new wave with organ and male and female vocals. Think X if they went into a more new wave direction.
    9. RX - "Cocktail Child": Saxophone-infused boogie rock with a punk chorus.
    10. Voice Farm - "Reconstruction": Minimal synth-pop with dialogue samples.
