Deluxe and expanded reissue of Sleep - Dopesmoker, remastered using the original master tapes not used on any previous release of the album.

Side D features a previously unknown recording of the long-lost Sleep song "Hot Lava Man."
Side E features two previously unreleased outtakes from the Dopesmoker sessions.
Side F is an etching of the iconic Arik Roper Weedian image featured on the cover of all versions of Dopesmoker since 2012.
LP #4 showcases an early, embryonic live recording of "Dopesmoker" from the I-Beam club in San Francisco on May 28th, 1994.

Each LP is pressed on green kush vinyl, a specialized custom blend of five different colors all mixed together to create an approximation of the choicest indica strains. Additionally, the LPs are all pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

The set also includes a 7-inch single showcasing the "Dopesmoker (Radio)" and "Proceeds The Weedian" (another abridged version culled from the full-length "Dopesmoker" song), pressed on green kush vinyl and housed in a green Third Man Records company sleeve.

The set is in a wraparound slipcase with each individual LP housed in a full-color printed sleeve featuring of-the-era pictures, plus two full-color posters measuring 16.5 x 24 inches and 12 x 24 inches depicting a full-color photo of the band around the time of recording the album and the legendary "riff chart" breaking down all the different rational components of the hour-plus long song, respectively, and a 4.5-inch diameter woven Weedian patch.

Matrix on side C has a scratched unknown symbol before "CTMM"

Has anyone else noticed either inner groove distortion (or what sounds more like maybe quivering or odd nonetheless) on Side A? It was quite distracting toward the end of that side.

Mine came without the 7”, have contacted TMR and no reply. Let me know if you have one you’d like to sell

This is a great box set. It sounds amazing! My favorite version of this album by far. Thank you Thirdman Records for making a great album even better and for having it arrive on my birthday!!!

Just finished the first spin, sounds great! Volume is a little low, but this is the type of music you crank up anyway.

Like any record I own pressed at third man, they were really dirty, but I ultrasonically clean all my LPs before the hit the turntable. I got maybe 2 or 3 quiet ticks a side through headphones, probably wouldn't hear them through speakers.

Well I compared my SL pressing with TMR version.
I measured SL at around 75db, the TMR version was around 65db. But it was a very noticeable difference, didn't need much to bring it up. As a reference I played the Bad Brains remaster which came in at 70db. Anyway just turn the knob up!!!

My 2018 Southern Lord pressing is so much louder than this TMR pressing. I compared the two side to side. Other than that the TMR pressing sounds just as good, you just have to turn the volume up a little. After all, Sleep should be played very loudly to get the full effect!

Really made up for the last vault release with this one.

Today I compared this to my other copies which are the Tee Pee cd and the Southern Lord cd. I also previously owned a Southern Lord vinyl copy. The Tee Pee mix is the one I’m most familiar with and I love it still. I do like it better than the Southern Lord copy I have but I do like both. This new Third Man mix is definitely quieter(why do people complain about quieter mixes? Just turn it up!) but the bass really brings more out of my subwoofer. On side 2 there’s a phasing effect on some guitar parts that really jumped out to my ears. I don’t have much surface noise at all on my records, just a little here and there. The extras are great additions here too with different takes, live versions, Hot Lava Man, and the 7”. All of that makes this a must own collection for any fan of Dopesmoker. That said I still hope one day to own the Tee Pee pressing on vinyl and I’d also love a cd version of this Third Man mix and the extras. I’m really thrilled with this box but I can’t say I like it more than the live box set from several years ago.

Maybe I'm just easy to please but my copy sounds fine. The patch does look a little shitty but I didn't buy this for the patch. I could care less about the posters. Seems unlikely that this version is anyone's first engagement with Dopesmoker so I am assuming that we're all here for a new master and the extra music. In my opinion the extra music is fun and deepens my appreciation for the classic hour-long song. Hot Lava Man could easily fit on Sleep's Holy Mountain. The alternate--faster--take of Dopesmoker gives a bit of perspective of what might have been going on in the studio. The live version also gives nice perspective on the development of the song. The sound quality is a little rough but not too bad (but I grew up listening to audience recordings of the Dead from the 60s and 70s--some of those ARE bad quality!)--you can easily hear all the instruments and singing. It is an interesting and enjoyable snapshot to Sleep back in the day and fun to hear how the riffs, lyrics, tempos, and sections are a little different. It's also just fun to hear Matt's live tone back then. The 7" is kind of pointless--who wants a radio edit of Dopesmoker?--but like everything else here it is fun to have too, even if it is just a tease for the entire song. Final gripe: am I the only one who could care less for etched vinyl? It's not like I'm ever looking at that thing. And every etched record I have, including this one, is cupped. Despite this I don't regret buying this and I hope the band members are getting a nice payday, they deserve it.

Hot Lava Man makes all totally worth it🥲. Mine has lots of noise on it I might need to clean it again
