Very interesting release for the fans of Eric Clapton and Layla. Could be good addition to any collection. Layla Sessions consists of 3 CDs.
The first one is remix of original album from original master tapes. And it was the first remastering from the original tapes - so it has it own advantagees and disadvatagees.
Bill Levenson and Steve Rinkoff worked hard to produce juicy CD sound and made acsent on guitars, bass and drums. You would enjoy guitar solos and you would hear it in detailes, but they lost integrity of original sound, there's no "wall of sound" feeling of original record. Anyway I like this remixed version - if you wanna to listen to Eric and to Duane - this CD is a good choice.
Second CD presents epic studio jams by Derek and The Dominos with long, hot and fantastic guitar solos and it's real joy to listen to this music - an invitation to live concert of the project which we would never attend.
Third CD - studio out-takes which also are quite listenable and interesting.
Edition is really deluxe - LP size box with 3 CDs, booklet and copies of studio sheets for the mixing by Tom Dowd.
Sometimes people are selling only CDs from Layla Sessions - better buy full edition with original box.
If you wanna listen to Layla album for the first time - it's better to buy later remastered (not remixed) edition from original tapes.
If you like Eric Clapton - it's a must.
