- Rage On Behalf of the Machine.
Oh, yeah, I'm so punk rock. On my latest album, I used my dumb lyrics to run cover for big pharma and cell phone companies while bagging on my fellow Americans who ask questions.
Good luck with your shitty tattoos, guy. - Punk/psychedelic/groove/disco/drugged music.
The grooove on Ain't no thief is unbelievelable.
Nothing can beat this in 2023, proove me wrong ;) - Out of curiosity, did they cancel the Urban Outfitters exclusive? Luckily I found a mom & pop in town on release day to buy a black copy and green copy, but I pre-ordered one at UO until they called and told me it was delayed.
- Edited 2 years agoFirstly, great record from a great band. All their records are great honestly. No exception here. As far as the pressing, mine is totally fine. Very light pop here or there on side B, maybe I just got lucky. I do get what others have said about it sounding a bit flat. Can't argue there, it is not a very dynamic sounding record, but ain't no thief sounds great with some nice dynamics.
Edit: Return to Monke sounds pretty dynamic too honestly. - Excellent album by an excellent band, but a mediocre pressing. Hisses and pops, a little bit of warping, and ultimately feels pretty flat and bass heavy.
Still worth your time and money. - Edited 2 years agoIncredible album, but this pressing is only so so. No pops or clicks but came out dirty from the sleeve and sounds kind of flat. Needs more space to breathe.
- Absolutely insane record that perfectly taps into the current state of collective humanity--the devolution, disinformation, division, apathy, and general chaos that has pervaded society (especially in the past 6 years). The spoken word/noise tracks are particularly poignant here, reminiscent of Beat poetry and Mark E. Smith. Cave World also feels like the most thematically and musically cohesive VB record so far, while still retaining their evident love of genre-bending. There are a couple of relatively "fun" songs (e.g. Ain't No Thief, Big Boy) in there to give levity to what would otherwise be a pretty bleak album, mood-wise. The band's anger, introspection, and of course as always, sense of humor, are all in full effect on Cave World. It feels like the record is bursting at the seams with all the frustration and ferocity within, and the outro track (Return To Monke) leaves you wanting more; feeling like there's more to be said or a question to be answered, but that we as humans will never find it.
