- i remember getting this fresh in the shop way bk in 2002, A lot may not know this... Now when this orginally come out musical mobb were the only people to have this on dubplate and was caining it around london in thier sets, word spread of this heavy bass tune that just says ''musical mob'' on it. A few large DJ's got thier own names on dubs and had them cut, but it was still a DJ dubplate and really was never meant to be released as such, mad crazy popularity at the time forced em to press it. I was lucky enough to get the first general release, Got my copy from bassline records, kilburn where they (musical mobb) would personally drop the records them selves. Now that shop for some reason decided to keep the records behind the counter but have a full club PA sound system inside to annoy the whole high street. This is the only tune that sticks out and shook the windows in front so bad they look like they was gonna crack from wobling from sound pressure. As said below this tune is timeless with great memories, even 17 years later i play it and still love it :)
- Edited 11 years agoI'm not a specialist but after a few research it seems safe to say that "Pulse X" is one of the mother releases of grime, that pulsating and brutal, typically londoner genre which contributed giving birth to dubstep and bass music in the early 00's.
So what do we have here? Pure, raw, strictly underground beats & bass, totally urban yet absolutely animal - the super minimalistic, direct, obvious yet alienesque way of the ingredients and arrangements could evoke something like a grime equivalent to LFO's "LFO".
One can assume that this unrefined, super sharp vibe did spread all around the world as you hear hints of the brazilian or south-african underground electro scenes in this monster, seminal tune.
I discovered and ID'd this courtesy of the ever precious Ben UFO, who went record digging in some private warehouse with FACTmag, and was checking a version of this tune on his portable vinyl deck in front of the camera. Hope he picked it up finally!
