Reviews
- Well Sound ... Totally reminds me of an old punk reggae guy long gone. He would have loved this collection of tunes. He introduced me to most of the music that started my musical journey .. leading to this along the way . Love it
- Emotional Rescue come up with the goods once again here delivering an inspired double vinyl treasure trove of hidden gems from Bristol's sadly short lived Recreational Records which evolved from the city's iconic record shop Revolver (the setting for Richard King's excellent 'Original Rockers' book if fancy a bit of supplementary reading).
The origins of what became the "Bristol Sound' are very much alive and present here - a healthily broad minded cross genre approach with more than a nod to the dub tradition of combining mixing desk experimentalism with a bucket load of bass.
It's an all killer no filler selection that ranges from the dancefloor ready post-punk-funk of Animal Magic (who provide the title track) to the extended dubbed out discomixes of Talisman's Bristolian take on roots alongside a whole lot of other stuff that pleasingly falls somewhere between the two. Basically the kind of music that inspired me to set up Dubwise Vinyl in the first place.
Helpfully spread across two pieces of vinyl that does the 12” mixes justice and comes complete with an authentically DIY styled promo sheet insert.
