went back and just listened to this after owning the analog productions AAA cut and the new AAA cut rhino hifi and i have to say this pressing while not as good as those still sounds pretty damn good. For someone who just wants a new clean copy without spending alot this is a good option
I have to admit that I was a little surprised to see this much negative feedback about this pressing. My copy was flat, silent, with minimal (if any) pops after a wet clean. I did a side by side comparison with an original Canadian Mono pressing. The Canadian Mono pressing wins hands down, but IMHO this reissue isn’t the mess that others are saying. If I were put on an audiophile hat; it is missing the original natural punch in the bottom, has less separation in the highs, and the distortion in the original recording can feel a little more pronounced. Where it does start to feel “muddy,” is when bottom is added to tracks like Alabama Song. Still, it is entirely enjoyable and a good value. But yes, a dimension is missing when direct comparisons are made to unaffordable copies - just so the audiophiles don’t think I’m calling them crazy. I got my copy through Warner Music Canada and have no quality control complaints. I can easily enjoy this pressing as it is intended. I honestly don’t feel like I’m missing anything from the music. Get it, enjoy it, return and replace defective copies.
I am always amused by mixed reviews on most reissues. It makes me truly wonder exactly what people are or aren't hearing. I feel some folks are trying a bit too hard, while others may be overly hyping a release because they are simply happy to have a copy. Perhaps the truth falls somewhere in the middle.
By the way, my copy is passable. No complaints at the price point.
for a reissue It plays great. after hearing how much noise that's on the original releases :) i am quite content. but if u very picky and don't like old school sound stick with the CDs or digital :)
I bought this in 2013 and thought it was dull sounding, I maintain that almost 10 years later. The worst sounding of my Doors vinyl. Generally feel the Doors were recorded great and always sound good on vinyl. Would avoid.
Just recently got this 2009 Rhino and it sounds great both master and quality just like the other Rhino reissues... Had/have an 80s stereos repress, 50th Mono, VMP Mono and this one is the best for sure.
Phenomenal press. Simple packaging, great mixes. The hits are a lot louder than the deep cuts, as per usual with these reissues. I can highly recommend this reissue though.
