- I'm very happy with the mastering and the flat, quiet pressing. This sounds very good, similar to, but warmer, than the somewhat brighter SACD. My only gripe is that for a special anniversary edition, BMG should have taken more care with the packaging and supplied better inner sleeves and the original lyric sheet.
- Picked this up at HMV for £15.99. Brilliant remastering. It beats the pants off my original red cover cassette version. Just replace the cheap inners, clean with a 70’s velvet circular brush, and it’ll last for 50 more years. Absolute classic Kinks!
- Sooo frustrating on first attempt... the mastering is superb, perhaps best ive heard even vs my SACD. The downsides are numerous... paper only inners so they come scuffed and filthy. Gave it an ultrasonic clean and played disc one... constant rotational click from a hairline across half the playing side. Not to mention the minor warps and slight tonearm side swaying. Not acceptable so back it goes. Might try the counterpart CD release cause if that sounds like this KPG LP it will be the one to have for sure!
EDIT: 3rd time lucky. Second was better but non filled during last of Celluloid Heroes and i returned that too. The third is a treat. Almost flat, plays straight and quiet if only after Ultrasonic cleaning. Still gonna get the matching CD to compare! - Looks like the KPG cut from 2016 thats been repressed by Optimal instead of MPO. Two plants i all too often curse!! Will grab a copy and compare them soon
- Edited 2 years agoSounds fantastic — even the live disc is pretty every and rich.
**upon additional listens, studio disc has some inner groove distortion at the champion track Celluloid Heroes. Not devistating, but noticeable.
