Show All 52 Reviews- I have to say if you guys are interested in an affordable audiophile copy my 1985 US DMM pressing is pretty killer and sounds as good as many of my Blue Note Originals. I’ll have to check out these Tone Poets to make a comparison but it’s definitely a good option for those seeking alternatives to modern reissues or $1000 OGs.
- Edited 21 days agoI can't really add anything that hasn't already been mentioned in other reviews. It's a really good release. This is an essential Tone Poet that should be in anyone's collection.
I had some vinyl debris stuck to label on Side 4, I suppose from the cutting process? I had to use my finger nails to pry it off, but it left no damage. - Get it. I was skeptical, because there are so many pressings of this that cost astronomical amounts. So, how would a $30 pressing sound? Amazing.
- Edited 19 days agoI consider this 2xLP “Complete Master” (the reissue with the “stereo” decal on its front) the best stereo version of this LP I have ever heard. My mono copy is the one released by Classic Records near the turn of the century. But wowie! This stereo version is unbeatable. As a bonus, the LP of extras is marvelous in its own way. Even though the titles may be familiar, it’s a completely new Coltrane listening experience. Get this before it goes out of print and you regret not getting it NOW.
- I don´t often write reviews, but man, this edition is just beyond amazing.... I own quite a few tone poets, AP- and MM-records, recently some UHQR-releases, THIS vinyl is among the best I have EVER heard! Listening with a pair of HE1000se on my head, my brain just melts and rematerializes inside that recording room, it is THAT good :-D
Thank you SO much, everyone involved in this release did a stunning job. Wishing you all the best from Germany. - This is jaw-dropping good. Unbelievable. The mastering is phenomenal. My record is flat, excellent sound stage. Well done, Kevin and Joe.
- Every time I put this on, I'm just stunned. It's like hearing it for the first time every time. Such an excellent pressing no matter how you frame it.
- Fantastic pressing for that fantastic album - dynamic clear and very exciting ! Sounds like you were in the room with the band
- Edited 3 months agoHaving listened to this pressing and a wide variety of the mono pressings including an original DG plastylite pressing, I have to admit that the stereo mix is really the one to sit down and listen to. This pressing is also incredibly good.
As usual with tone poet releases, the bass finally gets some proper treatment, you can really visualize the instrumentation (even if it is in Rudy's parent's home). My copy is luckily perfect. The booklet is a real added bonus.
Seriously speaking this release is incredibly good value. - Excellent pressing as there is essentially no surface noise on my copy. The music jumps out from the speakers with some force.
The brass comes out of one channel, except Coltrane seems in the direction of the piano. The piano is off-center near the back. The drums occupy the right channel. You can hear some reverb on some tracks. Everything is very clean, clear, detailed. It sounds like a new recording. Every instrument sounds like it's supposed to sound.
Excellent all around.
