Reviews
- Edited 3 years agoAbsolutely stunning live set of Bob Brookmeyer and his working band from 1978, featuring Jack Wilkins on guitar. It is so hard to find Jack Wilkins records, that I was thrilled to finally see one in the wild. He is an advanced player with a creative harmonic concept, and all the chops you'd ever want. Wilkins gets to stretch a bit on this record, which is refreshing.
Brookmeyer himself is in top form. His tone is excellent and his playing is clean and inventive, yet traditional.
I wish I could be more excited about the production and pressing. The sound is quite weak, which means the signal to noise ratio is low. My copy is super clean, so that's not an issue yet, but it can be as the record gets more use. Also, there's a little bit of non-fill which causes some strange ripping sounds once in a while.
Ignoring that, the record is really enjoyable to hear, and only five bucks at Amoeba. Recommended.
