I've not been a follower of Watson's work but had picked this 12" up when it was released. His original is definitely floor filler for sure but I always turn to the B side as Sterac just takes it in another direction completely. More of a slow burner harkening back to early techno soul of Detroit and the early European progenitors. I would not have been surprised to hear that this had come out in 1992.

Personally I rank 'Aurelon' among the top techno songs ever made. I mean, top three or so. Bold statement? I know, but I feel that way. If an alien came to me and asked to play one song called "techno" I think that 'Aurelon' would be it. It's just so shimmering and stands out from everything else. I't very "Detroit" all over but bear in mind that it was done by a bloke from Glasgow who started his career by making below-average gabber (no, I haven't heard any of that, but so they say). It's very fast-forward tune, and unlike many other tunes, sometimes I like to pitch it down a bit. But no matter what speed I'm playing 'Aurelon' it gives me such pleasure. It's a perfect tune, a blueprint of a perfect electronic song. Emotional, atmospheric, and perfect drum programming. I'm such an enthusiastic that I cannot tell one bit of it that I'd change. It's packed with hope but it has a small proportion of melancholia in it. And those chords, the chords, oh my. If you haven't heard this you might be missing a significant musical experience in your life. And if you don't want to take my word for it, certain French chap called Laurent Garnier included on his best-of-everything, 'Excess Luggage', compilation.
