Disagree with the first reviewer here as regards to the track 'Coalesce' - pretty much what everyone is trying to make again now in 2022, so for sure not outdated and well produced enough to sounds great on a big system. Shades of Susumu Yokota about it.

Quality downtempo release, but it was released two-three years too late to be groundbreaking like the first release on the label by Y.A.P.

Back when ambient house ruled the world, Essa 3 released a quiet little album on San Francisco's ZoeMagick label... then seemingly disappeared. Of course 1/2 of Essa 3 would turn up on Morgan Geist's Metro Area project, but Essa 3's own debut album is firmly planted in its era. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Tracks like "Pool 1" and "Sundial" have a strong melodic quality to them. Sure, "Coalesce," with its rave whistle, sounds dated, but I could almost see "Glass Roots," with its strong bass and midpoint acid breaks, still possibly working in a club. Enjoyable, but the album is definitely of its time, rather than for all time.
