Autechre ‎– We R Are Why / Are Y Are We?

Warp Records ‎– wap72
Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM

A We R Are Why 8:30
AA Are Y Are We? 6:10

Companies, etc.

Available via mail order only. They also sold the record during the 1996 tour.

The mail order letter from Warp advertising this release, which can be seen in one of the images here, lists the track durations, which confirm that the record should be played at 45RPM.

The title of the EP is rather unconfirmed. On the EP is listed as "We R Are Why", in the book for the Warp20 box set it is listed as "Untitled", whereas the label on the EP reads "We R Are Why, Are Y Are We?" like both titles fuse to one question.

As can be seen on the mail order letter from Warp in the images, there are track duration times specified, which match the record being played at 45rpm.

I like play this at 45rpm with assimetric, break-dub techno, IDM records. Example for Brothomstates_Te Noch Rp...Killer, Highly recomended

If you like mid 90's Autechre, you'll surely enjoy this.
Somewhat reminescent of Tri Repetae (which came out the same year)in style and sound, but definitely a unique work on it's own. Too bad it's hasn't been re-pressed, as it was available only by direct mail order. Oh, well.

If possible, download the versions of this song recorded at
33 1/3 rpm. They really give you a different feel for the tracks.

I find "We R Are Why" to be one of the very best Autechre tracks - it's maybe the only track with a cheerful feel by them. The rhythm is smooth and doesn't become boring through whole 8:33. All sounds are distinct.

The second track is not that good, as for me. It has a darker feel, at least in its first half.
