- Edited 7 years agoI'm not super happy with the remastering on this. It's not terrible, but it sounds like the stereo has been expanded. Everything is either panned dead center or all the way left and right, nothing in between. For a proper modern yet retro sound as intended by the artist and as familiar to fans, it should have more of a "spacious mono" quality, nothing hard-panned. The remastering also cuts the dynamic range a bit for no audible benefit. It's not terrible but there's no reason for it to be "loudened up" in this way.
As for the selection, Tracey's "hits" are all here, and most of the songs sound great. I would've replaced a few of the weaker tracks with the alternate 12" version of "Move Over Darling" and the long version of "They Don't Know", but you really can't go wrong with this compilation if you love "They Don't Know" and "Breakaway" and want to hear more homages to '60s girl-group styles. None of the songs are as glorious and perfect as the Ronettes/Lesley Gore-styled cover of Kirsty MacColl's "They Don't Know", though.
