- Edited one year agoPaul Gulati and Simon Powell the artist behind X-Asp are a bit of a mystery ? With whispers floating around on release of this album rumouring X-Asp could very well be U-ziq and Stasis! You can certainly feel the influences of both artist on this album, with even the album title track 'Terra Ferma' being a U-ziq mix!
'Terra Ferma' is great underrecognized underrated album that truly belongs in that classic 90's golden Rephlex/Warp/Peacefrog era of IDM-Techno. A combination of spacey pads, complex drum patterns, 90's head-bopping Si-Fi melodic IDM-Techno with some nice touches of analog Acid merge with layers of Ambient calmness that float within the machine hardware composed patterns, beats, sweeps and rhythms. The music has an edgy sense of rawness with a programmed home studio feel to it - delivering music complexity with a sense of warmth and even deeper moments that ooze with futurism. 'Terra Ferma' was a great album back then, and still is today, yet sadly it never received the recognition it so deserved, esp. amongst Techno-IDM-Ambient fans! This remains a timeless album with that a certain retro charm making this album, for me, a beacon reminder of being a true contribution to 90's golden era of excellent AI/Braindance music - so grab it while you still can!
A definite recommend album; esp for those who enjoyed artist/albums by: Vulva - 'From The Cockpit' and 'Birdwatch', Yoni - 'My Little Yoni, Synectics - 'The Purple Universe', The Black Dog - 'Bytes', Hi-Ryze - 'Sodium', Aphex Twin 'SAW 1' .. and of-course 90's output by U-Ziq and Stasis. - Totally agree with the rest of comments. P69 gives me goose bumps. It´s really sad this is history repeating of some of these bands or artists that just release one work and all your life you keep dreaming on their next one but It doesn't come.
