- Edited 10 years agoThis was Basement Phils first record. I had given the guys, Tom & Brendan their first Live gig after hearing their demo tape. They called themselves 'ATOM'. They were so pleased they said if there was anything they could do for me I should ask. So I did, at first they took my samples to their studio and came back to me with their mix a weeks later. Even though I had given them an idea of what I wanted, they produced a tune which was nothing like the one in my head. So I went to their studio and made this tune myself.
It originally came out as PW (PW stands for Phil Wells) featuring Atom on Law records, then the guys pulled a sneaky one and signed a deal with Eastern Bloc as 'Ariel'and left Phil out!!! This is why Basement Phil started the Basement Records label as the first three records he made all got ripped!
However I did love Justins' remix, but when it arrived in a Promo pack sent to me from Eastern Bloc I wasn't amused! even though I notified them, they still sold 1000s and paid me nothing.
The most upsetting thing about the whole saga was Toms first interview, where he was asked how the original tune came about? Tom said he had met a dodgy geyser in a pub who gave him the samples! I was gutted. - Justin Robertson remix. Released on Creed records which was run from the same building as Eastern Bloc record shop in Manchester where Just worked.
Ariel were an indie band that featured Tom out of The Chemical Brothers on drums. This track was put out when Tom & Ed were at Manchester University
