The Masin side of the Modern classics vinyl is particularly noisy. I was wondering if it was just mine but i see from what others wrote that it is a common problem. The hayward side, btw, while not perfect, sounds better. Some of the Masin tracks are listenable, but this Clouds track is one of the most messed up.

I have owned an original copy of this, and although I didn't have it from new, I can say it is a poor quality vinyl pressing – very thin vinyl, shallow grooves etc. As previous commenters have said the P-Vine CD reissue is probably the one to go for in terms of sound quality. The Gigi Masin side is amazing.

Side A is a masterpiece of piano and ambient music; one of Gigi Masin's best works. I could list favorite tracks but it really is incredible from beginning to end. Side B is a haunting drone piece by Charles Hayward, and while I do appreciate it and its themes, it's completely overshadowed by the brilliance Gigi Masin pulled off on the other side.

This was a very limited release. Due to that and Gigi Masin's recent (and long-awaited) surge in popularity, it fetches somewhere between $500-$1000 in near-mint condition. Modern Classics reprinted and re-released it to the joy of many (including myself), but the quality of both the source material and vinyl pressing were poor; ravaged by surface noise and clicks. I don't have the original pressing, but I do have a very high quality needledrop of it and can confirm that it sounds incredible. As of April 2017, coughing up the money for it is currently the only way of hearing this release as it was meant to be heard.

Those who are OK with CD releases are in luck however. P-Vine Records from Japan released this on CD for the first time, and it sounds fantastic. I am unsure of the source they used (possibly cassette?), but you can hear that a lot of care went into it with very minimal noise. This is the version I personally listen to on my MP3 player. Still, nothing beats the needledrop of the original I have, and I look forward to the day I can afford having an original print before it get's completely out of my income bracket.
