Notes

"The proceeds from the sales of this recording will go to the Hip-Hop For Respect Foundation, a non-profit organization that combats police brutality worldwide."

On Track B1, One Four Love (Part 2): The following MC's appear on the chorus but unfortunately their full verses could not appear due to technical difficulties: Nonchalant, Ras Kass, Dead Prez and Parrish Smith.

NOTE TO USERS: Technically this release should be entered as "Various". However due to the large number of artists that appear, and in order to clean up the sloppy and confusing look of the page, the artist "Hip-Hop For Respect" was created. Check out the artist's profile for more information.

I got this cassette in 2000 at the height of Rawkus Records fame. I would bring this tape around as a staple to be played in my little one speaker tape-box. I loved the tape, and I think it still stands up. One could easily say it is the rap answer to "we are the world" but the fact is the songs all stand up and are still relevant today. Includes Mos-Def singing on the classic "A Tree Never grown."

With respect to the previous reviewer, if this record has a weak spot, it's certainly not the beats. One only has to listen to a few bars of the YouTube videos for "Protective Custody" or "A Tree Never Grown" over on the right side of the screen to see these are serious East Coast head-nodders. That shouldn't surprise anybody; it is a Rawkus record, after all.

If I had to complain, I'd say maybe 14 MC's on a track is too much of a good thing-- although even that complaint is reluctantly given, considering they each actually contribute separate verses, rather than simply a line or two or participating in a crowd-shouted chorus like some hip-hop version of USA for Africa.
