- My copy is quite warped, but thankfully it doesn't affect playback. Sounds great to my ears. I didn't know it was a gatefold, so that was a nice surprise. It's a shame there are no lyrics because Raye is a great songwriter, but it is what it is. Overall a good release.
- For me the SQ is not as excepted. Heavy reduction of the top end, less depth and distortion on some points. I wonder if this could have been prevented if they had pressed on two records.
- Well, just as any "new" vinyl, pops and clicks here and there are happening more often than not. Actually many, many (way too maaaaany) newly made vinyl releases, especially these last decade or two, carries a number of flaws. It is just a question of whether is it borderline or not. This Raye's release is on the low side with these issues. I have listened to it the entire duration with care, of course. It tightly fits the playing duration of each side. A bit cramped by my standards, borderline over-compressed and crazy loud what in turn causes dynamics suffering. I purchased clean and un-warped or damaged vinyl which makes me happy every time.
I am not going into details about lacquers and cutting these days, which type of lacquer and on which cutting lathe, which file is being cut from (digital or tape) and so forth. I am glad I bought this release because Raye has got a beautiful voice (btw, Raye reminds me of Amy Winehouse both with figure and as a vocalist) but over-used auto-tune is ruining things. I guess it is something market dictates which IMHO can be fun if used lightly as an effect rather than obviously hearing way too often.
Looking at this release as a whole I can only say - I am looking forward to Raye's next vinyl release! - I will give it a 4/5, generally the SQ is great. however, my copy came with a lot of dust. I cleaned over and over again. but some dust would still attach with stylus along playing. one more thing, why there is no lyrics with it QAQ. I love how she wrote in the gate fold. But I would expect lyrics...
- First time in a long time that I’ve received a new album that was this quiet, flat and centered. Love it.
