Reviews
- I am somewhat surprised that there are no real reviews of this opulent box set yet. Firstly, something about the physical quality. In my case, the first disc is a little wavy, so that the first song unfortunately has an unpleasant bassy overtone at the beginning. Also unattractive and unfortunately it has become a bad habit that the discs are all unprotected in individual cardboard sleeves, whose appearance and design are well done, but only the appearance. If you take the discs out more often, which a music fan is sure to do, then the discs rub against the rough cardboard and get scratched in the long run. So I have to get new protective sleeves to protect my "black gold" in the long term. But then they no longer fit into the box. It always makes you wonder how long you have to have studied design to become stupid! Have these young punks never heard of design and function? The one does not exclude the other - no, the opposite should be the case. Otherwise, the pressing quality is excellent and the sound of the tracks has been very well prepared. I also like the accompanying booklet. You learn so much and I often find myself saying: "Oh, I didn't even know that"! - even though I've been making and listening to music for so long. But that's exactly how box sets like this should be. They should evoke this "aha effect", they should make the listener curious, send them on a journey of discovery. I had already undertaken one or two journeys in the 70s and 80s, but many new aspects were added that I either hadn't realised at the time or that had slipped my mind. I didn't discover a single bad track on this compilation and I can't say that about many compilation releases.
Now, who is this box set actually intended for? Basically, for everyone who has remained curious even though they already know one or two songs, but can rediscover them this way, for those who were not able to experience the 80s and late 70s because they were unlucky (or lucky) enough to be born too late, for completists and collectors - in short - for everyone who sees music as a cultural asset and not as a consumer good. Get it while the price is still acceptable. - Every single record sounds amazing!
Does anyone besides me think this is one of the best music compilations of the 80s?
