- Primal Death/Trash from Poland with bold biblical themes
Released in 1991, PURIFY YOUR SOUL is the first and only album by Creation of Death from Poland. Their style is death/thrash in the mold of early Believer crossed with Sodom and Sepultura. Like Believer and Living Sacrifice, their lyrical themes revolve around weighty biblical matters. The primal, pummeling drums are impressive with occasional blast beats, but also a lot of mid-paced stuff amidst the frenzied rhytms. The vocalist is gruff but wisely uses different tones so that his guttering doesn’t sound the same song to song.
Speaking of which, the top cut here is easily “Psalm 69” where the vocalist cops a cool, unique tone. “Don’t Be So Full of Pride” and “Quartering Alive” are other favorites. But if you like any of the bands noted above you’ll appreciate PURIFY YOUR SOUL as its quality extreme metal from start-to-finish, but without the idiotic “so ee-vil” lyrics.
Someone criticized the band for not being “brutal” enough because the members were believers and their lyrical content was biblical, lol. I guess this guy never read the Bible, like the apocalypse in Revelation, Judgment Day and the lake of fire, the Mighty Christ’s brushes with religionist murderers, his bold cleansing of the Temple and his excruciating crucifixion, as well as the severe persecutions & endurances of the apostles/disciples, not to mention all the Old Testament stories and the brutal realities thereof.
There were plans for a second album but lousy reactions from Euro-audiences — purportedly due to their Christian stance — put the kibosh on the band continuing. They should have persevered despite the flack of ignorant fools because they would’ve certainly built an audience over time.
The 10 tracks clock-in at almost 41 minutes.
