Reviews
- Edited 6 months agoGreat buy. I think the original is still better than the remix. Anyways, you get the best of both worlds when you get this one.
- Edited 6 months agoI had an old beat up original US pressing that belonged to my High School sweetheart's older sister. It was gifted to me since I liked it so much, I played it a lot back in the day (early 80's). That thing had all the residual noise, scratches, pops, ticks and skips that went with pot smoking hippies with cheap beater turntables (and probably whatever stylus could be purchased for the least amount) and never put the records in the sleeves. At the time I had a meager vinyl collection, which are all still in my possession and kept still pristine, but I loved this album so I took the gift gladly.
Fast forward 40 years, I just happened to see this on sale at Amazon Prime Day for $32, so I pulled the trigger. So far I have only listened to the Kimsey remix, but man this sounds so good!!! Very quiet, flat vinyl. Deep darks, wide soundstage, the mix sounds perfect. I believe it has a touch more low end (I will have to listen to the original mix to compare), either way, this is a phenomenal sounding pressing. Alvin Lee sounds great, guitar and voice...right on, taking me back to my youth! - This is crazy good. What a pressing! Super quiet, flat, spacious, clear, detail, great bass. Alvin Lee is amazing!
- there are amazing sounds on this and the early 2 presses
i have but except a couple tracks the bass guitar and bass drum are not as
clear and present,as they could bed - Good work from Chris Kimsey who get out this new remix.
Voice and guitar from Alvin Lee are perfect.
Good pressing. - Anyone who has the Audio Fidelity edition take a double dip here and want to compare? The AF is pretty stellar!
- Just found mine behind the screen door! Forgot it was coming.
So, the new mix definitely has some good points. I like the way he brought the percussion up. This is one of those albums I’ve heard a kazillion times, and I never heard the cymbals like this.
The original mix sounds great, too. The record is pressed well, with no QC issues.
I haven’t compared it to my Audio Fidelity press yet, but that one is certainly hard to beat. I’ll have to give that one a new spin.
My advice: buy it. It’s worth it for the new mix alone, no matter what you own now. And if you don’t have a copy of this album, it’s essential. - The new remaster/remix is excellent. Not sure which version I like better - but you get both. Little to no surface noice, great balance and LP is flat.
