I have an A-9/B-8 and an A-10/B-9. They both sound the best I've ever heard it. Supposedly the German 'white circle' pressing is better? Maybe I'll find out someday, but until then this one is tops for me (that I can afford).

I have an A9/B8 copy, VG with surface noise, but boy is this a thrilling listen. The bass synths and bass guitar have a real presence you just don't get on modern reissues. Soundstage is crazy wide, instruments are distinct and seem to step out of the speakers.

Can someone shed some light on this?
A9/B9 with HTM etched points to the 1977 5th pressing?
What is this one? And why so special?

I personally prefer the 5th pressing (A/B 8 - 11) done by Henry Moss (HTM in runouts) over the others I have (2nd, 3rd, Japanese, 30th, .....). It's the dream version, you get lost in it surrounded by the soundstage and the silky and full equalization. Considering this is the very first remaster of DSOTM Harry Moss gives his signature giving the work a refined sound of the highest level. Surely different tube machines were used (Pultec EQ, Fairchild Comp?) together with solid state (the famous germanium EMI EQ?). And all this gives a softness to the sound without losing any detail, not creating any listening fatigue. Here we do not find the dry and open sound of the first versions, but an "updating" of the EMI sound carried out by Abbey Road Studios in the 70s and 80s by Henry Moss starting from SGT Pepper, Abbey Road .... Wish You Where Here .. Referring to the present day it could be compared to K. Gray's work for some record companies. In any case, if you don't want to gouge yourself by buying one of the first editions, this is the version to have above all the others, not to mention the real analogue sound without any tricks!!

No I have never heard a UK first pressing but,
This copy is fantastic vs the current remasters.
NM are going for under $100- killer deal IMO.
              It's that good.

Insomniac post: I did a shootout between this one, my A3/B2 (which is excellent also but not as engulfing of an experience IMO), first Japan (same), Wally (same), 30th, Pro-Use, 2nd Japan and a few others and this one won. I gave it an 11/10 and have to say that if I could only listen to one record for the rest of my life, it would probably be this one. You can soak in the delicious sound state and when the chorus come in on any given track it is a religious experience at high volume.

Can anyone help, I think I have a matrix runout variant not listed. My etchings read:
                      Runout A-side: SHVL 804 A-9 RRO HTM
                      Runout B-side: SHVL 804 B-8 RGT HTM

I cannot locate them on another release, have submitted for approval. All other elements of the release are identical to what is described here.
                      Sounds great!!
